Excessive breast size may occur for many reasons — inherited, breast development out of proportion with the rest of the body and after breast feeding.
The breasts are uncomfortable, heavy and may cause neck and back pain.
It is possible to reduce the breasts to a more normal size with an operation which takes about three hours under general anaesthesia. Most patients can return to work within a week to 10 days. Pain is not a feature of the operation postoperatively and scars produced are usually inconspicuous if allowed to settle for a few months.
The symptoms of neck pain, back pain and rounding of the shoulders often disappear.
This is a plastic surgical operation which has the highest rate of patient satisfaction and produces almost uniformly good results if carried out skilfully and for the correct reasons.
